Post-Decree Modifications Attorneys in Southern California

Changing the Terms of Your Divorce Agreement

As your life and financial circumstances change, your divorce decree may need to change as well. A post-decree modification is an important legal remedy that can help you avoid problems that come with missing payments or taking your visitation schedule into your own hands and, it can help you continue to meet your obligations to your ex-spouse and your children.

Courts understand that circumstances change for people and will generally change divorce orders as well, as long as a real need exists. A change in your job, a move to another city, a health problem, and changes in visitation patterns are just a few of the many reasons to seek a modification of existing court orders. Modifications are generally available, upon a showing of a change of circumstances, for:

At Holstrom, Sissung, Marks & Anderson, we help people throughout Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties to seek the post-decree modifications they need. To speak with an experienced lawyer about the possibility of obtaining a spousal support, custody, visitation or child support modification – or to challenge one — call any of our three Southern California office locations directly or, contact us online.

Not All Post-Decree Modifications Are a Sure Thing

One of the biggest mistakes people make is to handle divorce and post-modification issues on their own.

When parties can’t agree to a divorce decree modification, the requesting party may have to file an “order to show cause” for the change. For instance, perhaps one of the parties wants to move from California to another state and needs to modify a judgment prohibiting that type of move. Or, perhaps, the economic circumstances of the parties have changed, making a modification of the amount of child or spousal support necessary.

Our attorneys will counsel you as to how the courts interpret the need for change and what strategies are most likely to help you get your request granted or, conversely, to maintain the status quo.
