Child Support Attorneys in Southern California
Child Support and the Best Interests of Your Children
Too many custody fights come down to financial obligations, with both parents fearing they’ll pay too much or receive too little. Then, instead of staying focused on protecting their children’s best interests, they begin to drain their emotional and financial resources by fighting over the issue in court.
The thing is — courts know what a difference regular, dependable child support payments can mean to the children of divorced parents. And because of that, some amount of support can fairly be assumed as a given in any divorce that involves minor children, regardless of the arguments for or against.
Child support in California is governed by a complex formula for which the court and attorneys use a computer program. This program, when used improperly, can result in dramatically incorrect results. Our attorneys are well versed in the proper use of these programs and the complex tactics involved in entering data for the child support calculation.
At Holstrom, Sissung, Marks & Anderson, we represent parents on both sides of the child support issue in Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Our attorneys have extensive experience in these matters and can provide you with the strong yet strategic representation you need to obtain a fair child support result.

The Relationship Between Child Support and Parenting Time
In California, child support is almost always calculated by one of a few different, state-approved computer programs — programs that consider the various factors listed in the state’s child support statute. Of those, the incomes of each parent, the number of children and the amount of visitation time each parent spends with the children, also called “timeshare,” are the factors likely to have the largest impact on the amount of support ordered.
Because you probably can’t change your income overnight or the number of children you have — parenting time will often prove to be your best opportunity for making child support payments or obligations fall in line with your financial needs.
When you become our client, our lawyers will work closely with you to set goals for how the issue of child custody and child visitation should be resolved so that you have the financial resources you need to begin your new life. We will also look at whether any additional support ought to be argued for in connection with expenses for health care or insurance, childcare and transportation, sports, music, extra-curricular activities or other less obvious child-rearing costs.
